A remake of "the mask", maybe? - Spider-Man 3 Reviews
This movie went completely overboard with the cheezy, and didn't let go. When the Venom goo takes ahold of Brock it transforms its host into a badass. But when it takes over Parker, wow, a whole different thing. Brock gets extra muscle and teeth. Parker gets an emo hairstyle and the false notion that he's got game.
What's the deal with Parker's lame-ass parading down the street making hand pistol gestures towards girls? Tack on some dreadful music and the worst dancing and there you have it.
And Maquire cant even act those parts well!
The scene where Parker is making out when another girl in front of MJ is where my whole "The Mask" thing kicks in. He jumps up, plays the piano suddenly, then hops across bars, tables, chairs all with some newly found, alien-enhanced talent to dance like Jim Carrey's green-faced character. I half-expected his jaw to drop, tongue roll out, and eyes bulge... or maybe even his cranium to transform into a wolf-head and howl his infatuation.
They could have easily deleted this combined 20 or so minutes of footage and added more Venom time, but I guess toning the theme down from "tough superhero" to "worse than X-men 3" was the goal.
In that case, mission accomplished.
